UX in Real Life

UX IRLDesign often suffers from the difficulty of bringing concept to reality, making the real life user experience sometimes differ from the designer’s plan. Digital agency Filament Design Director Matt Hryhorsky recently laid this issue on the table in his design talk, UX IRL.

Presented at FITC’s Spotlight UX, UX IRL is all about exploring the realities of designing user experience, and taking behavioural, emotional, environmental and other X factors into consideration. Using Mickey’s Commandments, the Disney Studios design guidelines, Matt presents a great way to both measure and monitor the success of any user experience against the gold standard.

Check out the full video below which offers great examples of ‘user experiences’ that you might want to borrow for your next design discussion; starting by asking everyone to put their fingers in their ears…

For more great examples of how to strengthen UX, check out this talk on the Jedi Principles of UI Animation. ItĀ also uses Disney fundamentals, namely the principles of animation, to show how to create meaningful and moving user experiences in games, digital platforms and real life.
